Today, Italy marks Republic Day, celebrating the birth of its modern democracy. At the same time, for some Italians, it is a day to reflect on the legacy of World War 2.

During the war, in 1940, hundreds of Italian immigrants lost their lives as they were being deported from the UK on a ship called the Arandora Star.
